Skies of War
Skies of War is YoudaGames' 2007 follow-up to Rail of War, with the trains traded for aircraft. You choose a fighter at the start of each sortie, fit it out with the weapons you think the mission needs, then fly it into waves of enemy planes and ground targets. The mouse steers and fires.
The campaign runs eight missions deep, each one a little denser than the last, and the plane you have earned and the guns that go on it carry forward between them. It is a spiritual sequel to Rail of War -- the same engine and the same taste for a screen full of things to shoot, with the ground scrolling under a wing instead of a track.
It is the loudest of the three, and the one that asks you to choose a loadout rather than simply keep firing.
