Wordz
A hidden title, a row of blank slots and a keyboard of letters to choose from. Wordz is FreeOnlineGames' 2009 word game, published on Kongregate under the studio's name, and it is hangman with a music theme: the hidden answer is a song or an artist, and you reveal it one letter at a time from the A-to-Z grid. A wrong guess costs you, and the game keeps the tally beside the score.
The panel is dressed in the studio's soft blue-and-white shorthand -- the cluttered title card, the word-cloud footer, the rounded buttons -- and the categories and scoreboard give it just enough structure to keep going after a bad guess. Guess the title cleanly and the score climbs; guess too many letters that are not there and the round ends. It is a small, tidy guessing game of the sort that filled the browser portals of its year.
